According to published data, Colorado has earned more than $1 billion since the state legalized marijuana in 2014, and more than 41,000 people were able to obtain a license to work in the industry through legalization.
Moreover, the demand for products continues to grow steadily: the state’s revenue increased from $500 million to $1.02 billion in just two years, while it took three and a half dollars to reach $500 million.
In February 2014, in the first month of the year, with sales data, the total revenue of the state from taxes and duties amounted to 3.5 million dollars. Since July 2017, this monthly figure has not dropped below $20 million. Although this includes an increase in cannabis sales tax from 10 percent to 15 percent, which was achieved this month.
In light of this, Colorado Governor Jared Polis said that the state “cannot simply rest on its laurels”.
“Today’s report continues to show that the Colorado cannabis industry is thriving, but … We can and must do better in an increasingly competitive national environment. We want Colorado to be the best state for investment, innovation and development in this growing economic sector,” the statement said.
