The use of marijuana is allowed in Singapore for the first time
The Singaporean authorities allowed the use of the drug based on marijuana for the first time, reports Straits Times. It will be used to treat epilepsy in a minor girl.
According to the publication, the girl’s doctor asked for permission to import a drug containing marijuana, as conventional drugs do not produce the necessary results. The Ministry of Internal Affairs told the newspaper that the patient suffers from refractory epilepsy.
According to Darrick Cheng, president of the local Epilepsy Treatment Association, this is an Epidiolex drug containing highly purified marijuana. The drug is designed to treat severe forms of childhood epilepsy.
At the same time, Minister-Coordinator for Social and Economic Development Tarman Shanmugaratnam said he will never allow free circulation of marijuana.
In Singapore, the Government has a strict anti-drug policy. Their possession, even in small amounts, is punishable by death.
Medical use of marijuana is now permitted in many countries in Europe and America, including the US, UK, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. In December 2018, the use of marijuana as a drug was legalized in Thailand.
