Why hemp is banned today in many countries around the world?
If you look at the map, you will be surprised to find out that the more backward the country is in the economic and cultural sense, the stronger its prohibitions. And in many poor countries of Asia, the death penalty for marijuana is provided for. And you will see a completely different picture if you look at the developed countries: almost all of them have regular derogation of legislation, and today we can be sure that the process of full legalization will take place in the countries of the first world in the foreseeable future.
Why the position is fundamentally different in less developed countries? The fact is that poor countries are interested in banning cannabis, because it would increase the price on the black market tens (and even hundreds) of times. It is extremely unprofitable for the corrupt governments of those countries if everyone could grow cannabis for their own needs on their window ledges. It is beneficial for them when people buy it for huge money from informally “Licensed” manufacturers. “Informally licensed” ones are those who illegally produce a product, but the whole process is supervised by the movers and shakers of those countries: police, big politicians, power structures. In simple words – the usual mafia patronize by the official authorities.
For example, in Afghanistan the legislation is very harsh in this regard. At the same time marijuana grows there literally underfoot. Afghanistan is one of the main exporters of cannabis in the world. Are the authorities of this country interested in legalization? Of course not! That’s why they will fight cannabis among citizens by the most radical measures, so that their “own” people could supply the market with as much product as possible. A similar story, for example, with Russia – the country with one of the harshest laws in Europe, regarding cannabis. And Russia is one of the less developed countries in Europe. In such countries, it is extremely beneficial to support the ban on cannabis in order to maintain its high price on the black market, while the remaining part of Europe has already passed the barrier beyond which cannabis money is so important to politicians and security officials.
