UFC & AURORA CANNABIS AIM TO INNOVATE

In San Jose, California, Ultimate Fighting Championship athletes will act as test subjects to find out if the composition of the CBD cannabis can treat pain that goes hand in hand with their brutal sport – the official website of the organization said.

UFC plans to conduct clinical trials on the use of cannabidiol (CBD) by elite athletes, and then use the results to develop a line of drugs that can relieve chronic pain in athletes.

According to Dr. Jeff Chen, Director of the UCLA Cannabis Research Initiative, these efforts will be the first of their kind in exploring how high-end athletes can benefit from cannabis or cannabis derivative compounds. This topic is becoming increasingly important in professional sports leagues.
