New country on the legalization map?

The ruling ‘Sluga Naroda’ (‘Servant of the People’) Party of Ukraine has developed a draft law on the legalization of the use of marijuana for medical purposes. The bill is planned to be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada in the coming months. MP Yevhenia Kravchuk said that many of her colleagues intended to support the legislative initiative, the author of which is deputy, director Leo Leros.

“Colleagues from the faction promised to register a bill that would regulate the legalization of medical marijuana. It’s not a complete legalization. The debate has been going on in society for a long time. I know that many MPs are ready to support medical marijuana,” Kravchuk said.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not support this initiative and believes that Ukraine is not even ready for medical cannabis. This is due to the high level of drug addiction among the population.

According to him, the Ukrainian authorities have faced many problems, so “those who want to do business in this area will be tolerated.

“There are things that aren’t of the right time. I don’t think that’s a priority right now. We have not written out all the risks involved, we do not know if our society is ready. We do not need to be compared with other countries, as for example Canada where it is possible. We’re not ready yet,” says Vladimir Zelensky.

He added that at the moment the authorities are fighting against drugs, so it will be possible to return to this issue when the level of drug addiction in Ukraine decreases.

What does that say? The Ukrainian government is not against the legalization of medical cannabis, but only believes that this is not the time. Nobody knows when it comes in. However, the current course of Ukraine shows that the time is not far off
