At the end of the show, Diaz told astonished journalists that the hand-rolled cigarette contained cannabidiol (CBD), a substance that makes up cannabis plants, is not psychoactive, has no drug effect and is not on the UFC list of banned substances. He will only return to smoking regular marijuana after the fight.

“This helps in the treatment process, relieves inflammation and the like,” he said. “So it makes sense to use it before or after the fighting and in training. It makes your life better.

We’ve previously reported that Ultimate Fighting Championship athletes will act as test subjects to find out if the composition of CBD cannabis can treat pain that goes hand in hand with their brutal sport.

UFC plans to conduct clinical trials on the use of cannabisdiol (CBD) by elite athletes and then use the results to develop a line of drugs that can alleviate chronic pain in athletes.
